Fire clean-up at the Toronto badminton & Racquet club

PDI was contracted by Bot Ferrovial Nipigon Joint Venture to remove the existing 1970’s bridge completely along with the remaining piers from the 1936 structure. A four-lane
cable-stayed bridge is currently being constructed over the Nipigon River to replace the
existing two-lane Highway 11/17 bridge. The east-bound lanes of the future structure will follow the existing bridge alignment, while the west-bound lanes will be located to the north of the existing structure.

The Badminton and Racquet Club of Toronto, located at the heart of the city, was the scene of one of Toronto's largest fires ever recorded. The eventual damage caused by the 6 alarm fire, which took over 20 hours to extinguish, was far too extensive to salvage the core structure of the building. Priestly Demolition Inc. was awarded the tall task of undertaking the demolition of the fire damaged structure in its entirety to grade level, with the exception of both the basement and southeast corner of the building.

With fire damage of this magnitude further investigation regarding Origin & Cause was required, and Priestly Demolition assisted with this.  As planned from the start of the demolition, Priestly was to completely demolish the structure to the southeast corner where investigators were particularly interested in the 2nd level where the roof collapsed above the locker rooms. Priestly mobilized specialty equipment to complete this phase of work following the initial demolition.
